Publishing learning objects from course content manager

You can publish the following types of learning objects to an LOR from the Content Manager:

When you choose to publish a module or course, the LOR publishes all the children of that module or course as a single package.

Requiring metadata during publishing

Organizations can require metadata as part of the publishing process. You can specify a set of required metadata that is mandatory for learning objects by enabling the d2l.Tools.LOR.Publish.MetadataView variable in the DOME.

Publishing learning objects with thumbnails

You can select thumbnail images to display next to learning objects in your search or browse results. Select your thumbnails when publishing learning objects from the desktop or from the Content tool.

Note  The system only supports image files (JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP) as thumbnails.

You can select the image you want to correspond with the appropriate learning object using the Thumbnail Picker Control which displays all of the available images from the learning object. You can also choose to display the system default icon.

Publish a learning object (topic, module, or course)

  1. Click Content in the navbar for the course you want to publish to the repository.
  2. Click the Publish to LOR icon for the topic or module that you want to publish, or at the top of the list to publish the entire course.

Manage Content with the Publish to LOR icons shown

  3. Choose the destination repository and whether you'll overwrite an existing object or create a new one. You can publish large files or packages in the background, which enables you to leave the page while the system publishes. You can check the publishing job's status later.
  4. Choose options for whether the object will be visible and/or publicly available.
    • Only you and users with sufficient permission can view hidden learning objects and assets.
    • You can change this option once the object/asset is published to the LOR.
    • Publicly available objects are available to users without an ID and password to Learning Environment
  5. Select the Creative Commons rights you want to associate with the learning object/asset. Creative Commons licensing enables you to retain copyright on your work while allowing different degrees of reuse to other users. For more information go to creativecommons.org.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter a title for the learning object and add metadata.

Note  Associating a creative commons license automatically  populates the metadata rights fields with this information.

  8. If you want to remove items from the package, clear the check boxes next to topics or modules you do not want to publish. Clearing a module clears all its associated topics and sub-modules.
  9. If you want to add, edit, or delete metadata, click the Edit Metadata icon. For information on editing metadata, see Adding metadata to a resource manually.

Note  Associating a creative commons license automatically  populates the metadata rights fields with this information.

  10. Click Next.
  11. Verify that additional assets files are included. To add more files, click Add Files.
  12. Enter metadata, if adding metadata has been enforced by your organization.
  13. Select a thumbnail image of the learning object if the learning object contains an image file.
  14. Click Publish.
